Spoken Word Artist

Callahan Connor a.k.a. C-Command is a spoken word poet, rapper, musician and sound artist. He grew up in Mississauga where he studied Drama at Cawthra Park SS. He also studied Theatre Performance at Concordia University in Montreal, taking a student exchange to Beijing in 2011 to learn Chinese Opera. Four years ago he experienced a lucid dream in which he could freestyle rap. This altered his art and brought him into spoken word poetry. He has competed and featured at poetry slams across the country, and in 2013 he placed 2nd in Canada in the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championship.

In 2015 he undertook a spoken word artist residency at the Banff Centre. He has often collaborated his poetry with dancers: he is an original member of Mississauga's dance-theatre collective Frog in Hand, working with them since 2012. He is also a longtime collaborator with TOES FOR DANCE, creating new poetry/dance works for the TOES FOR DANCE tour, facilitating performance workshops for theFRESH Dance Intensives across Ontario, and co-headlining the first TOES FOR DANCE festival in 2015. He debuted his one-man show The Living Shh at the Vancouver Fringe in 2015 and has since performed it in Mississauga, Toronto, and Bangalore.
