Stories of Lakeview &
the Small Arms Inspection Building

in celebration of Mississauga's 50th

Exploring the history and legacy of Mississauga
through Photography and Film

In celebration of the legacy of Small Arms Limited and the Small Arms Inspection Building, and in honour of Mississauga’s 50th Anniversary in 2024, the Stories of Lakeview & the Small Arms Inspection Building includes a Short Film on the history of the site and its residents, complimented by a photography-based art exhibition showcasing 16 Mississauga-based artists in response to the thematic call "Mississauga Then & Now" and "What Does Mississauga Mean to You".

The Project will be presented at a public Opening Night on November 1st, 2024 at the Small Arms Inspection Building with an inaugural screening of the Short Film, the unveiling of the Exhibition, and 1940's re-enactment performances, dance, music, and more. The public Exhibition will run from October 23 to November 1, 2024.

The film: CreativeHub 1352 is excited to announce the launch of "The Stories of Lakeview & Small Arms Inspection Building.," a film project that celebrates the rich history of Lakeview and the historic Small Arms Inspection Building, produced by CreativeHub 1352 and created by Patti Jannetta Baker and Gabriella Bank. Once a critical site during World War II, where dedicated workers including thousands of young women, travelled across Canada to do their patriotic duty,  the building  is now a cultural hub for creativity and community engagement. The film chronicles the broader development of the Lakeview area, which has grown into one of Mississauga's most vibrant neighborhoods and delves into the contributions of those who journeyed duty-bound to the Small Arms Inspection Building to support the war effort.

The photography exhibition: Entitled "Mississauga Then & Now," this exhibition commemorates 50 years of the City of Mississauga; capturing the transformation of the city, from its industrial roots to its present as a thriving urban center.

Join us to celebrate with live music, storytelling, and a journey through time as we reflect on Mississauga’s history, resilience, and community spirit!
